Little Assynt Tree Nursery Visitors

So far, 2016 at Little Assynt Tree Nursery has been a hive of activity. Back in February we were out with volunteers collecting Juniper seeds and Aspen root, the last to be collected before seed sowing. Volunteers have been helping out on a weekly or fortnightly basis, for an hour or two, or all day. Even some visitors to the area come for the day. All help is most gratefully received! We have had visits from preschool, primary and secondary school pupils. They have all had hands on experience of nursery jobs and tackled them all with enthusiasm! The users of the Assynt Centre have also had a visit from the nursery and sowed some Scots Pine seed for us. It will soon be time for them to visit to see how the seedlings are doing. We had our Spring open day at the beginning of April. A wet day couldn’t dampen our spirits thanks to the music provided by our fantastic local musicians, ‘Jorine and Friends’ and the stacks of home baking that were demolished. A willow bird feeder

Spring Open Day

A wet day didn’t put visitors off coming along to Little Assynt tree nursery’s open day last week. Live music from our brilliant local musicians created a great atmosphere and cake kept everyone happy. Creative kids made cress heads and tried out the tree puzzles dotted around the nursery. Thank you to everyone who contributed and came along to support us. You don’t need to wait until our next open day to come along and see what’s going on at the nursery, we’re always happy to show you around. Call 01571 872010 to check someone will be there when you fancy popping along.

Willow Weaving in Achiltibuie

As part of Little Assynt tree nursery’s Spring open day celebrations last week we ran a willow bird feeder course in Achiltibuie. Visitors to the area and local people came along to try their hand at willow weaving under the expert eye of local willow grower and weaver Midge. Everyone that took part had a great time and set off home with their very own bird feeder. A big thank you to all involved and the course funders, Coastal Communities Fund.
