Learning The Way!

By Katrina Martin, CALLP Education Manager (Job Share) Ever since I stepped into the role of Education Manager for the Outdoor & Woodland Learning Project I have been excited at the prospect of delivering an Outdoor Learning session themed around paths, especially given the variety of paths and access projects CALLP has. Like many of us, I enjoy going out

Sensory Exploration of the Weather

Sometimes a session has to be altered or rescheduled due to inclement weather. Today it was forecast to blow a hoolie… we revised the plan (no pens and paper, cardboard resources etc, just our warm-clothing-and-waterproof-wrapped bodies written in) and tentatively met at Achiltibuie Primary School before making the final decision on whether to head out. We discussed our thinking with

Exploring words on Isle Martin

P7s from Ullapool Primary School have been busy this week, exploring Isle Martin on Wednesday and formulating session plans today in preparation for the Share Day. On Wednesday we explored words, starting with a search for nature’s opposites through descriptive words such as “hot” and “cold”, “loud” and quiet”, “rough” and “smooth” and challenged each other to guess these based

John Muir Trust blog on Hill to Grill

One of our helpers for the Outdoor and Woodland Learning project’s Hill to Grill programme this year was Quinag Conservation Officer Romany Garnett from the John Muir Trust. Rangers and stalkers from the Assynt Foundation, John Muir Trust and Highland Council Ranger Service taught the pupils tracking techniques to

National Tree Week at Little Assynt Tree Nursery

Last week we celebrated National Tree Week at Little Assynt Tree Nursery with the reopening of our Gaelic Alphabet Tree Trail. Pupils from Lochinver Primary School prepared tags with the Gaelic names for each of the trees and the letter they represent in the Gaelic Alphabet. Pupils then took us on a tour of the trail. Well done to all involved! Visitors

An Apple a Day….

Apple loving primary 1 to 4 pupils from Lochinver Primary School visited Little Assynt Tree Nursery to learn about the year in a life of an orchard apple tree. They spent the morning finding out what happens to the trees throughout all the seasons from blossom and pollination, to thinning, harvesting and pruning. Our Fruit growers of the future!
