Musician and sound artist Alex Mackay, this year’s Suilven Artist In Residence, invites you take part in a sonic art workshop at the artist’s studio at Glencanisp. The workshop will take place in the studio and the surrounding area, and will involve:

  • An introduction to contemporary sonic arts and the role engagement with the natural environment plays.
  • An insight into the work Alex is making this summer in Assynt.
  • A guided sonic exploration of the land around the studio, where you will learn how you can use your ears to engage with natural environment and capture sounds in creative ways, and how they can be turned into something new.

No experience or equipment is required – just open ears and an open mind – and the workshop is open to anyone of any age. We will be spending some time outdoors in the area around the studio so please be prepared with appropriate footwear and clothing for some walking on the footpaths and potential wet or windy weather.

If you would like to come along but are concerned about any accessibility issues that may prevent you from fully participating, please get and touch and we will be more than happy to adapt and accommodate in any way possible.

If you could please let us know in advance if you are planning to attend, that would be much appreciated to give us an idea of the number of people to plan for.

To RSVP or get in touch with any questions, please email Alex at alexdavidmackay@gmail.com
