seashore day

It’s 28’C here and anyone with any sense is on the beach! Continuing the seaside theme, I’m hoping for a similarly lovely day on Wednesday 13th August, when I’ll be helping local artist Frances Fogg and wonderful storyteller Jess Smith with a morning on the beach at Old Dornie in Coigach.  See the poster below for details – we’re hoping

Marine Protected Area confirmed for Wester Ross

Those of us with an interest in the marine environment are delighted today to have news that the Scottish Government has confirmed a suite of 29 MPAs around the country, including one which stretches from Poolewe to the Summer Isles. sunshine on Coigach

We had a really good day at the Coigach Gathering on Saturday – chatting to lots of people (locals and visitors) about CALL and some of the ideas for the future.  We had some lovely healthy tree seedlings from the nursery, grown by Nick, which all sold – and we also sold several beautiful carved spoons from Chris Goodman.  Those

Coigach Gathering

Tomorrow – the 5th of July – will see the Coigach Gathering taking place at Badentarbet Green, from 12:30pm onwards. Members of the Coigach-Assynt Living Landscape team will be there with a stall, ready to answer any questions you might have about the CALL project and Landscape Partnership plans. They’ll also be bringing some of the young trees from the

broch info and mountain plants

Hopefully you are aware of the open public meetings going on just now in Assynt, informing people of what is the plan behind excavating and consolidating Clachtoll broch. Your input would be very much welcomed – do try to go along to Lochinver Community Room tonight at 7pm, or Drumbeg hall tomorrow at 2pm or 7pm. Tomorrow, Wednesday 11th, at

creative workshops in Assynt

Creating Assynt – A Community’s  Response to the Landscape Canisp moonrise The geology of Assynt is overwhelming to the eye, with  great mountains such as Suilven and Quinag dominating the skyline.  The people who live and work in amongst these huge slabs of rock have a close relationship to the land, one  which is largely unspoken. This summer, the local

CALLP or CALL?!

The sharp-eyed among you may have noticed that there seems to be a new organisation around.  You may be used to seeing the CALL logo but recently ‘CALLP’ has appeared …are they one and the same you ask?  Well, CALLP (Coigach Assynt Living Landscape Partnership) is the expanded group formed to develop and deliver those projects given stage one approval

CALL for volunteer help!

We really need someone to help with carrying on the great work Romany did in organising events and activities.  While we try to find money for such a post, it would be great to have volunteer input to keep this going. Could you spare a day a week maybe?   We also need someone to help Nick at the tree

trees available

There are still some trees available at the nursery: birch, rowan and hazel, all 60 – 90cm. These are too big to be grown on for another year so it would be great to find homes for them very soon. Get in touch with Nick on 01571 872010 if you are interested. Viv

Romania visit

After much planning, the Romania visit is happening next week. Four people from CALL, Grant from Knoydart and Amanda from the Community Woodlands Association are looking forward to a week packed full of inspiring stuff – with the intention that when they return, they will be keen to use some of the ideas gained to start up new things here.
