From the 6th to the 13th of September saw Assynt’s first Wild Wood Week come to the fore – with events on nearly every day, from wood carving to creative writing, fungi forays to a day put at the Little Assynt tree nursery, there was lots to see and do.

We also had a fungi foray in Culag Woods with Assynt ranger, Andy Summers. It was a great day for mushroom spotting, with over 30 species identified! One species spotted and snapped was this conifer mazegill –

Finally on the Saturday we had a woodland day at Glencanisp Lodge, there was lots to see and do, seeing the lighting of a charcoal kiln, watching wool dyeing, trying local produce, having a go at willow weaving and hurdle making, and at the end of the day enjoying a blazing bonfire, music and storytelling!
