You might be getting the idea that CALL is only about woodlands.  Not true!  We are really pleased that Soil Association Scotland has offered to run a day’s course in the CALL area, helping crofters and growers to make the most of their ground.  The day will focus on soil fertility – how to judge what you’ve got, and how to improve it to get the best out of your ground while keeping it in good heart for the longer term.  There are two very good, practical speakers (James Bretherton, AgScope  and Richard Huxtable, Scottish Agricultural College) coming to lead the indoor session followed by an afternoon visit to a nearby croft looking at the actual techniques to use.  The day will be held in Elphin on 7th November and is free to crofters, producers and land managers – £72 to others.  If you’re interested,  contact Lyn Matheson on 0131 666 0847 or email lmatheson@soilassociation.org  or see the Downloads section for a booking form.
